Partial Solar Eclipse

13. September 2015 in Southern Africa, South Indian Ocean, east Antarctica

On September 13, 2015 a partial Solar Eclipse can be seen. A partial eclipse occurs when the Sun and Moon are not exactly in line and the Moon only partially obscures the Sun. This phenomenon can usually be seen from a large part of Earth outside of the track of an annular or total eclipse. However, some eclipses can only be seen as a partial eclipse, because the umbra passes above the Earth's polar regions and never intersects Earth's surface.

The metonic series repeats eclipses every 19 years, lasting about 5 cycles. Eclipses occur in nearly the same calendar date. In addition the octon subseries repeats 1/5 of that or every 3.8 years. This series has 21 eclipse events, progressing from north to south between July 1, 2000 and July 1, 2076.

This partial eclipse can be seen from Southern Africa, South Indian Ocean, and east Antarctica. (With material from: Wikipedia)
