Annular solar eclipse

1. September 2016 in Atlantic, Central Africa, Madagascar, Indian

An annular Solar Eclipse can be seen on September 01, 2016. It can be seen from the Atlantic, Central Africa, Madagascar and Indian. A partial eclipse can be seen from Africa and the Indian Ocean.

A annular eclipse occurs when the Sun and Moon are exactly in line, but the apparent size of the Moon is smaller than that of the Sun. Hence the Sun appears as a very bright ring, or annulus, surrounding the dark disk of the Moon.

The metonic series repeats eclipses every 19 years, lasting about 5 cycles. Eclipses occur in nearly the same calendar date. In addition the octon subseries repeats 1/5 of that or every 3.8 years. This series has 21 eclipse events between June 21, 1982, and June 21, 2058. (With material from: Wikipedia)
